Sonic Games

After the successful launch of Sonic Chaos, Sega came up with another platformer game in Sonic the Hedgehog series. It was released in November 1994. Once again you can pick Tails as a playable character, same as in Sonic Chaos. But unlike Sonic Chaos this game was exclusively released for the game gear. Fang the sniper and Knuckles the Echidna's made their debut on gamegear with this game. Also the game is much larger in size then earlier games of gamegear and is very much in line with games of genesis.

Dr. Robotnik has once again captured all the Chaos Emeralds. But this time an accident occurred during the testing phase of his new weapon, Atomic destroyer which scatters all the Chaos Emeralds over the island. Both Sonic and Tails start their journey to collect all the Emeralds, but in the way they face Knuckles the Echidna who has been duped by Dr. Robotnik to believe that Sonic and Knuckles are on their way to steal Emeralds. Also the game would feature Fang the Sniper who is also seeking to steal Emeralds.

This is the first SONIC GAME in which you wont lost all of the rings when you are hurt. Instead it is zone decided. In zone 1, 2 and 6 each hit will take 30 rings and in zone 3, 4 and 5 50 rings will be lost. Once again you can pick Tails as a playable character. He is very much different and easier to handle from sonic. He becomes sea submarine in water whereas Sonic gets swimming boots. The game contains 6 Chaos Emeralds out of which 5 are in special stage and last Emeralds are obtained automatically by defeating Dr. Robotnik.

The graphics are ok but they look good keeping gamegear in mind. Also it is much better than previous Sonic Chaos. Bosses look very good. Sound is not as good as other SONIC GAMES but some zone music is good. Especially the music for Robotnik winter zone is quiet catchy.

The game also features two different endings which is also quiet interesting. Robotnik battles are good but they are too simple. There are only 5 levels which are very easy and won't take much time to finish. It also features Pogo spring and rockets shoes from Sonic Chaos and two new vehicles, Screw shoes and Snowboard which can only be used by Sonic. There are also time boxes which can be found in bonus stages which will revert the time back to 1:30.

Overall the best SONIC GAME for gamegear. Though the graphics are not as good enough as Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for gamegear and music is also not great. The game is good but not a perfect game, but is still worth a try. There are many sonic sites which features Sonic online cheats for this game. At the end I would recommend this game to all proud owners of Gamegear.
