Sonic The Hedgehog 2006 - PS3
A feeble attempt at resurrecting Sonic's legend, this sonic game turns out to be a big disappointment. Forming a part of those games which are a pockmark on the series, this SONIC THE HEDGEHOG GAME fails miserably.
Coined as the game which could bring about renewed interest in the blue being, this is nothing which can impress even the most die hard fans of SONIC THE HEDGEHOG GAMES. While playing this SONIC GAME, you would be required to play in three different modes. The first mode allows you to play as sonic, while the others let you play as shadow or silver, a new hedgehog. Learning this game requires some time because each character has its own set of moves. Sonic has its trademark homing jump while silver has been given telekinetic powers. Shadow, the alter ego of sonic, has a modified homing attack and he can also use armed vehicles. Instead of providing depth to the game, this splitting up of the game lessens its fun and people won't be able to play this SONIC GAME completely and only as sonic.
Apart from above three, the game also focuses on the sidekicks in SONIC THE HEDGEHOG GAMES. Tails and Knuckles are frequently encountered and so are other characters like Amy, Blaze etc. The overall experience involving these characters is not fun at all, probably because of the glitches in the game. What could have been a game with decent variety, it falls down face first due to the technical faults.
Another problem with the game is frequent and lengthy load times. You would encounter load times when you load up a new mission. Starting a new mission or completing side missions would see a couple of load screens for every mission. Their necessity notwithstanding, they lead to splitting up of the game in pieces. Also, you cannot play this SONIC GAME ONLINE, but can make it multiplayer for two players.
The action sequences are also marred by technical errors and game design. What hinders smooth game play most are the camera angles and camera handling. You would frequently find yourself swearing at the game because of the abrupt change in the camera when you were performing a certain move which led to your character dying due to the change in the angle. Moreover, the game does not have the feature of auto save and you will have to develop the practice of saving at the start of every round, if you do not want to repeat the levels again. When all the death points in your game finish, you are kicked out of the game to the main menu, and if you had not saved it, then you need to do the levels again.
A complete failure in all aspects, it fails miserably at what it set out to do. The graphics are a shame, the game play is age old and the storyline is stale. I do not think the veteran SONIC GAME players need any more hints which tell them to skip this one.
