Sonic Riders - XBOX

The name is Zero Gravity, and it requires our blue boy to use a hoverboard to rush through. Does it make sense? Like the rest of the SONIC GAME, it doesn't. A total disappointment, this game suffers from everything that would keep even the most loyal players of SONIC GAMES away. A stupid plot, a short campaign and bad level design can sum this game up.

The plot is something about a robotic rampage and a series of pleadings by Eggman that he is not responsible for this. But in the end it turns out that Eggman was not directly involved but wanted to take control of the robots so that he could use them for his own purpose. Straight out of a movie, but nevertheless, its downright silly.

Apart from the story, the dialogs also falter. Those who would be playing this SONIC GAME even after reading this review would find the torture a person is put through when he is subject to dialogs of such kind. Utterly useless, and highly repetitive, they tend to surface after every few minutes of playing the SONIC GAME. In between all this junk, you never get to know when the game actually ended.

The only thing that offers some relief in the game is the racing part. This sonic game offers you racing through the levels that you have already completed. The controls for the racing are average, but not fun at all. You can use the slingshot move, which lets you take sharp turns easily by rotating and blasting off again. Most of the time it would be a hassle making this move work but when it does, it is a real pleasure to look and perform. A certain level of energy points is required in executing such moves and in case you fall short of those points, you would fail in between the move. For filling your energy reserves up, you need to jump around. The more powerful the jump is, the more points you get. You can use these in making a Dash move or a slingshot move.

For the movement through the hover board, what we have are three modes of the board namely, grind, wheel and air. As per the name, air lets you jump and fly across obstacles while the wheel lets you travel through blocked shortcuts by simply crashing through them. The grind mode is more interesting and it requires you to use rails and traveling on rails is only possible in grind mode. Nothing very interesting in this part too, because the fun is seldom and the options limited.

Apart from this, the graphics and music have been nicely done. They make playing this SONIC GAME fun, and bring the extinct elements back. No Online sonic gaming or multiplayer is possible through this game, which is yet another drawback. Mostly a no go, it doesn't have anything even for the most regulars who PLAY SONIC GAMES.
