Sonic Chaos - Game Gear
SONIC GAMES have always been among the top rated games for Sega Mascot. After the release of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for Gamegear, Genesis also released it. Since their was not much difference between the two games, Sega decided to launch a new game for Gamegear. This is how Sonic Chaos came up. The name again says most of the things. Once again it would feature Chaos Emeralds missing and Sonic must collect all these to defeat Dr. Robotnik.
The game Marks an important moment in the chronology of SONIC GAMES for gamegear. Game works on traditional style of Sonic which we all know. You have to start from the left of the corner and reach the right corner and in the mean time collect all the rings to stay alive. If you hit the enemy you will loose rings and if you hit the enemy without rings you will die. In the starting of the game you will find lovable blue hedgehog no longer the top hero of the animal world. He is badly marginalized by someone who is very powerful.
If you have played SONIC GAMES earlier then this game would not be a much surprise for you. Gameplay is very traditional and you will feel right at home with it. At the starting only you are given a choice between Sonic or his new friend Tails which was earlier introduced in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for gamegear. The orange two tailed fox has an important ability which makes him ahead of Sonic. Ability to fly using his two tails like a helicopter but for limited period of time. This is the first game in which tails can fly. Earlier in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 for genesis he cannot fly, so from the start only it is giving an impression that they are trying something different.
The objective of each level is to make to the end of the level in minimum time. You would find robots in the way to Dr. Robotnik. You have to defeat these robots and collect the rings to keep yourself safe from loosing a life. The game is setup like Sonic 1, 2, 3 with bosses.
The graphics are very good. They very well match with genesis counterpart. They are very much clear solid and colorful. Both Sonic and Tails looks like each other which is good to see. Also the bosses look extremely cool; overall graphics are excellent keeping gamegear in mind.
Sound is great and catchy, same as SONIC GAMES are known for. Quality music theme provides a fitting backdrop for each scene. Most of the sound is reused to a repetitive extent on bosses. But they employed a different music Sonic scores a hit on the boss. Overall the best music which sounds close to what genesis games is known for.
The game is straight and simple. Levels are also very simple. It's an improvement over Sonics previous outings for gamegear. I would prefer this game more for young gamers but it's not a great platformer. Overall it is one of the best sonic gamegear games out there.
