Once again your very old Sega's zippy blue mascot has entered into the gaming grounds with side scrolling platformer game. With the release of this game Sega has finally brought their lead mascot into pc gaming but you can also play on Sega CD console. The game is compatible with both Windows 95 and 98 and requires minimum graphics to run efficiently.

It basically is a remake of Sonic the Hedgehog which was earlier launched in 1993. Therefore the story is pretty much same as once again you have to speed from left to right side of your screen collecting coins rings and jewels in your way to face evil Dr. Robotnik who has stolen your girlfriend. To conquer him you have to face innumerable army of robots in your way which Dr. Robotnik has created. Within each level Sonic can travel into the past or future of that level by triggering a time wrap. You will also face a well constructed sonic cyborg twin to add more difficulty in your way. The bosses, rings and all other feature are same for which sonic is known, overall nice variety of levels with unique looks.

Sonic CD comes with a save feature that allows you to score high scores and fastest times. Unlike the console version the game also features automatic save after the end of each round. The game features two different endings that make this game more interesting to play. But the major setback of the game is that it do not support multiplayer mode which is a kind of disappointing.

Overall the graphics are colorful, attractive and are extremely beautiful and are well designed and pixels are used to best availability to decrease the blurring effect. But the game also has some cons in graphics issues like its compatibility with windows XP. Windows XP users have to find a number of fan developed patches to get the game run and even then it could crash at any moment.

Sound effects are good especially the explosions but Sonics jumping sound effect is a bit loud. Coming to game play, control is stiffer and much more precise. There is also an introduction of a new move, the super peel-out which is exclusive for this game. This allows you to run up vertical 90 degrees and perform speed-runs. It also features creative boss rings that won't take away your rings. Overall game play is simple and adaptable for young ones but not for hardcore gamers.

Overall it's a good game to buy as it is first experience on pc gaming and the game is exactly like other SONIC GAMES which is a good thing. Unfortunately these features do not compensate to make sonic CD stand out among other SONIC THE HEDGEHOG GAMES series.
