Sonic and Knuckles - Genesis

Sonic and Knuckles - The title was a game in itself and says most of the things about it. Sonic and Knuckles is the first major SONIC GAME featuring Knuckles. The rivalry between Sonic and Knuckles continues in this game. Sonic and the Hedgehog series had left their great impression, and know it was sonic and knuckles to carry on the legacy. One who has played Sonic Hedgehog 3 would find Sonic and Knuckles almost equivalent to it. The game also focuses on Knuckles who was not playable in Sonic and Hedgehog 3.He added a new dimension to the game with his ability to climb on walls and glide for short periods of time, while adding needed depth in the character bin.

Coincidentally, similar to Sonic 3 a 3D rendering appears right from the start. At the starting only you can select your character, Sonic the Hedgehog or Knuckles the Echidna. Essentially there are two separate games to tackle however the style of play does not differ significantly from one character to other. Upon selecting Sonic the game play is generally same between Sonic 3 and this game, most likely due to the fact of the small time frame between the two.

Despite no save feature, the game play is much more expanded, as Sonic and Knuckles do not play the same levels. Also they don’t have the same moves. The difficulty depends on the character you choose Sonics speed or Knuckles various attributes. The former playing as SONIC GAMES do - the later, being empowered with Knuckles' gliding and climbing abilities, a little bit more puzzle and exploration-based.

Sonic and Knuckles begins where Sonic 3 left off. As usual, your goal is to fight Robotnik to get the overvalued and unnecessary chaos emeralds from his grasp. As in Sonic Hedgehog 3 there are two types of stages: Bonus stages and Special stages. There is even a boss battle where we have a 1 on 1 battle against Knuckles \ Sonic depending on which story you choose.

The main feature of this game is lock-on technology where connecting other titles to this cartridge unlocks special play modes such as being able to play through Sonic the Hedgehog 2 using Knuckles. Notably, no other video game in history features a "lock-on" feature quite like Sonic and Knuckles.Originally Sonic 3 was proposed to come up with Knuckles as playable option but due to time constraints and other problems they were forced to split projects into two as Sonic 3 and Sonic and Knuckles.

Sonic and Knuckles displays a huge color palette, and the game's zones have excellent variety in matters of location and distribution. Similarly, Sonic and Knuckles audio is superb, direct in comparison to Sonic 3.

The conclusion is Sonic and Knuckles successfully follows the footsteps of its predecessor. It is easily one of the better sonic titles - even up there among Sonic 1 and 2. All in all, Sonic and Knuckles finishes the 16 bit prosperity with a bang. Overall it is just a brilliant masterpiece.
